How to Edit a TikTok Video After Posting
Before we get into the specifics, you should know that there is only a workaround for editing your films after they’ve been published. Re-uploading your video is really your only option for making significant changes.
Editing Your TikTok Video
Although the app does not allow you to modify the original video after it has been uploaded, you may save it and re-upload it. To repair your video, just follow these steps.
Step 1
By clicking the symbol at the bottom of the screen, you may go to your profile.
Step 2
Select the video you wish to edit and leave it open on your phone until you are there.
Step 3
On the right side of the profile, tap the triple-dotted symbol.
Step 4
Then choose ‘Save Video’ from the drop-down menu. This saves the whole movie to your mobile device, including your effects, soundtrack, and everything else.
Re-Upload the Video
Return to TikTok’s home screen after your video has been saved:
Step 1
To start making a new video, click the ‘Add New Video’ option.
Step 2
Rather of having to rebuild your TikTok, choose ‘Upload’ to the right of the record button, then pick your video from the drop-down menu. This enables you to submit your original TikTok video while simultaneously adding a fresh caption to this “new” video. The video stays the same, with the exception that your TikTok username appears momentarily in your downloaded copy. Everything else in your movie, from the music to the effects to the edits, is preserved, enabling you to alter the caption while keeping everything else.
Creating a New Video
Making a new video may be simpler than modifying an existing one since it is often difficult to edit an uploaded video the way you want. Delete the video you’re dissatisfied with, go to your gallery and locate the original, unedited version of the video, then apply the necessary effects before uploading – this time do it properly.
Here’s how it’s done:
On the main menu, click the ‘Plus’ button.
Choose the video you want to watch.
Add new effects to the mix.
Replace the video with the new one.
Editing a Draft
Fortunately, TikTok enables you to save a video as a draft (and select whether or not to make it public or private). You can make videos and wait on them for a while before publishing them if you have these two choices in your toolbox. To save a draft, just follow the same steps as you would to publish a video. The ‘Post’ option is on the final page, while the ‘Draft’ option is to the left of it. If you’ve saved a draft and want to revisit it to make changes, follow these steps:
- Tap the ‘Me’ icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the TikTok app.
- To make changes to a draft, tap on it.
- In the top left-hand corner, press the back arrow.
- Make any required changes.
Carry on with your regular posting routine. You’ll be brought to the screen where you may click ‘Post’ by clicking ‘Next’, then ‘Next’ again. You may alter the viewing settings from ‘Public’ to ‘Only me’ if you’re still not convinced about your video. This indicates that your video has been published, but only you have access to it.

Follow these steps to set this to ‘Public’ at a later time:
- In the bottom right-hand corner, tap on the ‘Me’ symbol.
- Select the video you’ve shared.
- On the right-hand side, choose the three horizontal dots.
- Select ‘Privacy Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
- At the top of the page, choose “Who may watch this video.”
- Replace ‘everyone’ with ‘everyone’.
Even while this isn’t post-editing, it’s still a fantastic method to publish excellent material when you’re ready. You may even add material to the video after saving it as a draft so you can keep filming.
Third-Party Video Editing Apps with Extra Features
If TikTok’s capabilities aren’t enough to help you make the movie you want, you may try several alternative video editing applications that have more functionality and visual effects. Many similar applications may be found on the Google Play Store (for Android smartphones) or the App Store (for iOS devices) (for iOS devices). In this area, we’ll showcase a few of these applications that you may be interested in.
