We’re finally becoming more aware of the issues surrounding data and privacy, especially how apps use our data. Furthermore, dating apps are often connected to social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram, which is a necessity that not all users appreciate. Coffee Meets Bagel, a popular dating app, has now entered the ranks of dating apps that don’t need a Facebook account.
After the Cambridge Analytica fiasco, when an app that Facebook enabled collected the data of 87 million users for Cambridge Analytica, which was then believed to be used to help manipulate the 2016 election, Coffee Meets Bagel registered a 378 percent rise in requests for non-Facebook logins. People were outraged, but a nearly 400 percent rise in demand is still amazing. Dawoon Kang, co-founder and co-CEO of Coffee Meets Bagel, tells Bustle, “We were shocked at the huge increase in the amount of requests that started coming in, but when we thought about it, it made sense.” “Dating is a very personal experience, and maintaining your privacy is crucial. Given the Facebook fiasco, we understand users’ concerns and concerns about their data, which is why we felt it was critical to have an alternative to the Facebook login.” And the app isn’t the only one. Because sometimes you just want a little privacy, here are the best dating apps that don’t need Facebook.
1.) Tinder
Tinder has long been synonymous with requiring a Facebook account to sign up, but you can now sign up with only your phone number, removing the need to be on social media.
2.) Bumble
Bumble, the female-led dating app that lets only women message first (in heterosexual matches), also allows you to build an account without using Facebook, giving women more power over their love lives and data.
OkCupid, best known for its dating site, also has a popular dating app. It’s always a fun game to browse possible matches to see how consistent you are with them based on the platform’s algorithm.
